On the Effect of Multiple Passes on Kerf Characteristics and Efficiency of Abrasive Waterjet Cutting

Abrasive waterjet cutting is a well-established non-conventional technique for the processing of difficult-to-cut material and rendering various complex geometries with high accuracy. However, as in every machining process, it also required that efficiency productivity are achieved. For reason, present study, effect performing process by multiple passes investigated, evaluation this approach performed terms total depth penetration, kerf width, taper angle, mean removal rate, efficiency. In case passes, same direction traverse speed adjusted accordingly order to maintain time constant each case. From experimental results, was found on characteristics, depends conditions, especially regarding possible achieve significantly higher multi-pass when appropriate conditions selected.
